My Top 10 Reasons To Get a Flu Shot
I was on the phone with a friend the other day, who asked me what my thoughts were on her getting a flu shot. She has two kids at home and she just keeps on getting sick. And she’s sick and tired of it.
Knowing that I am a health coach with a passion for nutrition and natural healing, she asked my honest opinion on the matter. She had heard all these conflicting stories in the media on flu shots, so this is what she asked:
“I keep getting sick. Should I get a flu shot?”
Well, I said, “That’s a very easy question to answer”.
“Yes, yes, off course you should!”, I almost shouted. “EVERYONE should get a flu shot”.
My friend, expecting a slightly different answer from me, fell silent on the other end of the line.
You, like my friend, at the peak of this flu season, might be wondering the exact same thing.
Want to hear the long answer?
I firmly believe everyone should get a flu shot. I swear by my daily flu shot. It works miracles for my body. A green juice is the best flu shot you can get. It’s an easy way to nourish your body. A glass of 100% pure and freshly squeezed vegetable and fruit juice contains a huge amount of nutrients, just what your body needs to function properly, to stay healthy and to fight off disease.
I know there’s a strong push towards commercial flu shots or flu vaccines but I firmly believe in your body’s own natural healing powers. Giving your body the support it needs by providing it with the right nutrients can keep the flu at bay or help you recover more quickly once you get sick.
At least, I’ve noticed a huge difference ever since I started juicing.
Before my juicing days, I used to get the flu a lot. And each time I got the flu, I would get very sick, not leaving my bed for days. It would also take me a long time to recover. For weeks I would walk around with a stuffy nose or a sore throat.
Those day seem so far gone. I rarely ever get the flu these days. And when I do, I am back on my feet in just a few days.
I ‘blame’ juicing, I ‘blame’ knowing how to take care of my body and I ‘blame’ living on a high-nutrient, whole food diet.
So, here’s my top 10 reasons to get a flu shot.
Top 10 Reasons To Get a Flu Shot
1. We’ve been doing it for thousands of years
Many herbs, spices and vegetables have a long history of being effectively used in cases of the flu or the common cold. Natural home remedies have proven the test of time and often have little or no side-effects, which is more than I can say for the drugs commonly prescribed by your doctor.
2. It beats the hell out of Tamiflu
Tamiflu might be the most prescribed anti-viral drug for flu symptoms in Europe. But it’s a man made pharmaceutical with serious side-effects. Sure doctors say it’s safe and effective. But have you seen this article yet on the anti-flu wonder drug?
3. You don’t need to leave your home
Home-squeezed juices are 100% natural and retain all their goodness compared to pasteurised commercial juices. They are a great and easy way to get your recommended servings of fruits and vegetables. Simply grab all your fruits and vegetables and add them to your juicer.
4. It keeps you hydrated
When you have a cold or the flu, you need to stay hydrated. Fluid helps to thin mucus and can help clear a stuffy nose. Proper hydration is crucial for your recovery and it also plays a key role in the delivery of nutrients throughout your body.
5. It’s a meal
Eating a salad is probably one of the last things on your mind while recovering from the flu. A green vegetable juice can serve as a meal when you’re unable to get any solid food in.
6. It’s anti-inflammatory
Many vegetables have disease-fighting and antibiotic properties. For instance, ginger and turmeric can help clear infection. Cayenne is a natural antibiotic. I’d eat a whole cayenne pepper before I even consider taking prescription antibiotics.
7. It’s not expensive
Fresh local and seasonal vegetables are easy to get and inexpensive.
8. It speeds up recovery
Juicing boosts your immune system which helps you to battle the flu and to recover more quickly. When I feel a cold coming up, I immediately take my anti-flu juice or smoothie. It just works. I am back on my feet in no time.
9. It’s easily digested
The nutrients in a juice are easily absorbed by your body which gives your digestive system a break, so your body can focus on healing.
10. It gives you tons of energy
Juicing can boost your energy levels without the crash of caffeine or sugar. People who juice report a significant boost of energy from their natural green shots.
