This hearty Kale Pomegranate Spelt Salad is super delicious and combines three of my favourite ingredients: whole spelt berries, shredded Dinosaur kale and pomegranate seeds. This week I saw the first Dinosaur kale or cavolo nero back in stores again. In Europe, you can often find cavolo nero in stores from July to Januari. The crisp sweet pomegranate seeds are the perfect addition to this salad, the freshness of the pomegranate seeds works really well with the chewy spelt berries and hearty, slightly bitter taste of kale. Spelt is high in protein and fiber and has a lovely nutty flavour and chewy bite. Read More

All about olive oil
All about olive oil – Last Tuesday I spent an afternoon tasting beautiful olive oils at Restaurant Merckelbach in Amsterdam. The event was hosted by Olivomio, a local business with a passion for slow food and olive oil. Olivomio sells a wide range of high-quality organic olive oils from small, independent sustainable farmers from Italy, Spain and Greece. I first came across Olivomio’s olive oils at the Lindenhoff market where I bought an extra virgin oil specifically for the preparation of sweet dishes like my Bergamot Polenta Cake or Lemon Lavender muffins.Read More
10 Reasons To Get a Flu Shot
I was on the phone with a friend the other day, who asked me what my thoughts were on her getting a flu shot. She has two kids at home and she just keeps on getting sick. And she’s sick and tired of it. Knowing that I am a health coach with a passion for nutrition and natural healing, she asked my honest opinion on the matter. She had heard all these conflicting stories in the media on flu shots, so this is what she asked: “Should I get a flu shot?”. Read my answer here. Read More
Persimmon Avocado Kale Salad
This refreshing and brightly coloured Persimmon Avocado Kale Salad is gorgeous, healthy and just perfect for the holidays. Persimmons are in season right now and I cannot get enough of them. The subtle sweetness of the persimmons works really well with the slight bitterness of the kale. I just love the fresh taste and feel of this salad: crispy pomegranates, refreshing persimmons, crunchy fennel, creamy avocado, fresh goat’s cheese and a zesty, slight sweet lemon-honey dressingRead More
Cranberry Beet Orange Juice
This Cranberry Beet Orange Juice is a great way to enjoy the many health benefits of raw, fresh cranberries. Most people can’t stand to eat fresh cranberries alone as they are extremely tart. When you juice fresh cranberries with sweet fruits like oranges and apples, the sourness moves into the background. I particularly love the combination of fresh cranberries and oranges. This Cranberry Beet Orange Juice is sweet, citrusy and earthy with just a hint of sourness. Read More
Red Rice Caper Sweet Potato Bowl
This super delicious and hearty Red Rice Caper Sweet Potato Bowl is inspired by a roasted root vegetable dish in Ottolenghi’s cookbook Plenty. I love the sweetness of the caramelised root vegetables and the freshness and acidity of the dressing and herbs. I have been eating a lot of roasted veggies lately at home lately, in many forms, shapes and variations, but this is my winning dish. This is a great dish for fall coming home on a a cold, rainy evening. It’s my idea of comfort food! Read More
Fig and Fennel Rocket Salad
This Fig and Fennel Rocket Salad is simple but delicious. This salad is inspired by one of my new favourite breakfast, brunch and lunch place in town, Bakers and Roasters. It’s a cosy place in district de Pijp which serves wholesome breakfasts, excellent coffee, delicious salads, home-made pies and beautiful juices. Last time we went there they served a simple fig salad. I love simple food; it’s the ingredients that matter. And if you use beautiful fresh produce and high-quality ingredients, you can’t go wrong.
